God Has the Night Shift

The following is an excerpt from my book. 'Rise and Go.'

Psalm 127:1–2, “Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain. It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives to his beloved sleep.”

One consistent area of weakness for me is that I tend to have the sense that I am in control. There are times when I believe there is a direct correlation between my efforts and how my business and life go. I trust that the more emails I send, the more social media posts I make, and the more coffee and lunches I have with prospects, the more my businesses will grow.

You may feel the same way. Many of my clients do.

When we believe that our efforts are responsible for the growth of our businesses, then we also believe that when we are not working, nothing positive is happening on that front. In other words, we tend to think that if we don’t work, our business won’t grow. And so we never stop working. However, that belief is not true. The verses from Psalm 127 remind me to trust that the success in my business and life does not all fall on me.

Maybe these verses will help you as well.

As the verses promise, God is also at work on our behalf. When it comes to our lives and our businesses, God has the night shift! He is working behind the scenes, even as you read this book.

While we are doing outreach and holding business development meetings, God is softening the hearts of prospects who will in time work with us. Even better, while we are sleeping, spending time with our families, or having fun with friends, God is also at work on our behalf, in both our personal and professional lives.

Great leaders believe this verse to be true. That is why they can set boundaries and honor them.
